Timber Frame House extension, Princeton, USA
The owners of this house wanted some extra accommodation for their three children. The original house was designed by a pupil of Richard Neutra. The house is on sloping ground, and while the living rooms and parents bedroom and bathroom are on the upper level, the basement was extended down the hill to provide self-contained accommodation for the children: three bedrooms and a bathroom, a playroom and a study space. This provided a new screened porch and deck at the upper level. Construction is balloon frame, clad with render, and Critall W20 windows butt glazed at the corners to tie in with the original house.
