House Extension, Belsize Park, London
A light new day room replaces a badly constructed back addition containing a dilapidated bathroom, and the adjoining old kitchen is remodelled.

A new sliding glass door sheds light right back into the entrance hall of the house and leads through the remodelled kitchen to the new extension. A roof light adjoining the existing house lights the kitchen and balances the roof light at the other end of the addition. Aluminium sliding folding glass doors open out to the garden, and for party days, the French doors at the end may be opened.

The extension is constructed of rendered lightweight insulating blocks, with a slate floor and under floor heating. The ceiling is lowered over the dining table providing intimacy and the roof forms a private sun-terrace above.

The house is in a conservation area and the addition was restricted in size to be built within the Permitted Development rights.
